The Steroid Taper Application is designed to help people with Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR) and Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA) manage tapers of corticosteroids, typically Prednisolone.

Having agreed a taper plan with their GP or Rheumatologist, registered users of the application are able, in just a few clicks, to create their own personalised schedule. The schedule is then displayed on a monthly calendar.

The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section provides lots more information about the application.

Medical advice regarding tapering should always be sought.

Whilst every effort is made to ensure the accuracy of the calculations and the information contained within the application, no guarantee of accuracy is implied. All calculations must be confirmed before use.

No personal information other than your email is requested or collected whilst using this application. Your email address is required in case you forget your password and need it re-setting. Your email address will be used for no other purpose and most definitely will not be shared with anyone else.

Taper Plans

Schedules are created by selecting a taper plan. It is not necessary to log in to view the taper plans. The taper plans currently included in the application are:

  • The British Society for Rheumatology (BSR) and the British Health Professionals in Rheumatology (BHPR) Guidelines for PMR and GCA.
  • Doctor Quick and Professor Kirwans' (Bristol University Hospitals) Treatment Regimens for PMR and GCA.
  • Two patient-designed "slow" tapers for those who may need to taper more gradually.

Where an individual adjustment to a personalised schedule becomes necessary, users can update specific dates on their schedule or, by selecting the bespoke taper, are able to design their own schedule.
